Tentative Agreement Release and Education Information
Thank you for your patience as we have prepared the materials for the vote on our recently negotiated Tentative Agreement (TA). We have worked diligently to ensure that our ITMs have the necessary resources to thoroughly comprehend the Agreement. We also want you to understand how we got here and what lies in our future.
We have scheduled an aggressive roll-out of the TA. We will send an email to all ITMs on Sunday, August 28 (tomorrow) with a link to the website that contains the full-text proposal, TA Highlights, and comprehensive “Questions & Answers.”. The site also includes an Online Presentation (in PowerPoint or PDF format) that you can use for the upcoming Conference Call presentation. This educational Conference Call will be held the following day, Monday, August 29 at 10:00 A.M., PDT (1:00 P.M., EDT).
Current Status of the TWU VX Tentative Agreement

Fifteen months ago, your Negotiating Committee at TWU VX began negotiations with Virgin America Leadership on our historic, first Contract that was intended to be the foundation of our new Union. We were making significant progress at the negotiations table when it was announced, on April 4th, 2016, that Alaska Airlines planned to purchase Virgin America. At that point, we had some difficult decisions to consider concerning our next course of action.

TWU VX & Virgin America Leadership Have Reached a Tentative Agreement

Your TWU Negotiating Committee is proud to announce that we have reached a Tentative Agreement (TA) with Virgin America Leadership on our historic, first Contract. At the end of this week’s two-day session in Dallas, we resolved all open issues, and we have reached Tentative Agreements on all remaining articles of our potential Contract.

TWU VX Negotiating Committee Update - 06-15-2016

Your Negotiating Committee (NC) Table Team met with VX Leadership for three days last week in New York. In addition to reaching Tentative Agreements on “Scheduling” and “Bidding,” we also achieved an agreement in principle on Definitions. The topic of conversation then centered around reviewing existing proposals for consistency.

We followed up our productive meetings last week with a two-day meeting this week in San Francisco, where we continued discussing the remaining open articles. This meeting was particularly notable since all but one Member of the Negotiating Committee was in attendance. Your Negotiating Committee reviewed and discussed the Tentative Agreements that we previously reached in addition to the remaining open items. We also held additional discussions with VX Leadership.
Negotiating Committee Update - 5/12/2016

Your TWU VX ITM Negotiating Committee (NC) has just returned from a very productive, three-day bargaining session with Virgin America Leadership. During the session, we engaged in fruitful discussions on important scheduling, bidding, and quality of life issues. We also reached Tentative Agreements in some of these areas and are close to finalizing agreements in the others.

Negotiating Committee Update - 4/28/2016

Your Transport Workers Union (TWU) Negotiating Team has just returned from a three-day bargaining session with VX Leadership in Dallas, TX. Our discussions were very productive, and we continue to make progress in many different areas of our historic, first contract. Our next negotiating session will be May 10th through 12th in New York City. In the meantime, we will continue to work on the numerous items that are in discussion, and we anticipate making significant progress at our next meeting.

We would like to issue a special “Thank you!” to our Sisters and Brothers at TWU Local 556, the Union of Southwest Airlines Flight Attendants, who hosted our negotiations in their new headquarters this week. They were amazing hosts who made our Negotiating Team and VX Leadership feel welcome, which contributed to our productive week.
TWU VX - Your Fellow ITMs Need You!

TWU VX, in cooperation with Virgin America Leadership, is holding a training session for InFlight Support Representatives (ISR), and we are looking for volunteers to support their InFlight Team Members in this capacity.

What are ISRs? Quite simply, they are the “Front Line” representatives of our Union. They are the people that our ITMs turn to when they have questions or need guidance in any work situation. Many of you probably know that ITMs can help in disciplinary sessions. The reality is, NO ONE should ever enter a disciplinary meeting without an ISR present. However, in addition to this vital role, our ISRs are there to answer questions about contracts (or negotiations), deliver up-to-date information to our ITMs, and provide guidance concerning procedural or pay issues.
TWU is Committed to You!
It is hard to believe that it’s only been a little over a week since Alaska Airlines announced their intention to purchase Virgin America. We on the Negotiating Committee have been inundated with questions, and we’re trying to fend off the rumors whenever we see them. It would be irresponsible of us to engage in speculation, but we remain committed to answering all of the questions we can.
One of the most commonly asked questions we receive is whether we will continue negotiating with VX Leadership and training new InFlight Support Representatives (ISR). We assure you that we are returning to the bargaining table with VX Leadership on April 26-28 in Dallas for our next scheduled session. Our ISR Training will be held on May 3 in SFO and on May 4 in LAX.
Your TWU VX Representatives Regarding Today's Announcement
In spite of the rampant speculation and rumors over the past two weeks, we were still surprised this morning when we received official confirmation that our airline, Virgin America, is being acquired by Alaska Airlines.
This may come as a disappointment to some of our ITMs; however, we can all be proud of the exceptional and profitable company that we have built and the strong union we have developed with the Transport Workers Union of America (TWU). We look forward to blending our unique culture with the rich history of Alaska Airlines, when that time comes.
